Amazing puppetry weaves Lorca’s poetry in six short works
Blair Thomas & Company travels the world presenting amazingly creative adult puppet shows using puppets (of course) with live actors and musicians in a multi-media performance art works shows filled with dazzling creativity. This is artistic storytelling at its best. In their latest show, Blair Thomas an original take on six short works from poet Garcia Lorca: “Chimera,’ “Buster Keaton’s Stroll,” and “The Maiden, the Sailor, and the Student,’ and three Lorca poems” “Song of Flight,” “Song of Unforeseen Love,” and “Song of Dark Death.”
Blair Thomas depicts Lorca’s characters as high art meets low giving voice through a cabaret of puppets, amoral ruffians, and original music for an evening of highly unique theater. The show is an adult-themed production including nude puppets with sex organs showing in a comedy of failures chronicling one man’s pursuit of love and affection. What I witnessed is a surreal world where one man’s fantasy collides with its own end.
This artsy show has amazing visuals with the array of puppets and stirring lighting (by Chris Wooten) with terrific work from Sarah Goeden, Dan Kerr-Hobert, Erica Mott, Blair Thomas and Dax Tran-Caffee. For a quite different and artistically challenging evening, catch Blair Thomas & Company and see what amazing puppetry can be all about in storytelling.
