Funny, raunchy and tuneful late night Christmas show at Lakeshore Theater
Amy Armstrong sure knows how to play to her audience (here a drinking gay gathering). Her interaction and leathery voice instantly wins over this hard drinking late night crowd. They love her, her singing, her large size and her raw language. This is an X-rated adult only night club act played out on stage. The music was tuneful with Freddy Allen and percussionist Mark Diffenderffer offering fine background to Amy’s strong vocals.

Special guest Honey West, a legendary Chicago drag queen, sang surprisingly well and her warmth ignited the audience. The combination of crude humor and rousing Christmas songs made for a cute, different show. I’m not a fan of late night shows since I don’t drink (which seems to be a basic requirement here) but this show is a polished, crafty affair whose experience players know exactly how to entertain an audience. That can make for a fun night. The mostly gay audience energetically approved and sang along with the holiday tunes and they laughed heartily at Amy’s raw humor. A good time was had by all. If you dig late night shows, this one will satisfy.
