Wonderful movements and stellar lighting ignite “Unsex Me Here”
I don’t usually cover late night stage shows but I made an exception with A Living Canvas’ production after seeing the amazing photo gallery on their website. The idea of five nude performers (three women and two men) being lit by the creative photographer Pete Guither to tell a story—here Shakespeare’s Scottish Play, hooked me.

Filled with original music and aggressive movements (by Vanessa Passini) on a metal platform, the brave five bear it all in a sensual, primal and aggressively bold mode of story telling. One may come to this show to see the fine specimens of human anatomy, but the creative lighting and the swift movements of the performers keeps the show fresh throughout. There is nothing gratuitous or exploitive about the nudity in this show. The actors seem to be uninhibited and comfortable being nude. Pete Guither’s storytelling is aided by lighting (designed by Mitch Ost) that adds fantasy to the story telling that is loosely taken from Shakespeare. This tasteful show has strong movements as well as both manic fight scenes and sensual elements. The limited dialogue is adequately spoken. Glenn Proud, Mindy Tyba, Michael Glazer, Diana Christopher and Vanessa Passini marvelously performed the show.

Once the performers talk to the audience as they get them involved in doing “knock-knock’ jokes—all barriers are broken. Late in the show, audience members are invited to get naked and join the show. Five guys and a girl removed all their clothing and romped unabashedly on stage. A goodtime was had by all….
“Unsex Me Here” is a sensual and visceral performance art piece done with craft and good taste that become intoxicating enchanting. It celebrates the human form and it creates a worthy art form. The spectacular lighting and the smooth movements enhance the basic beauty of the human anatomy. For the brave who dare stimulating late night entertainment, “Unsex Me Here” is a visual treat that dares you to join them.
