Dazzling Christmas spectacular features precision dance routines as only the Rockettes can do

I have seen the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular many times over the last 12 years and I must say that the 2012. 85th celebration was methinks special. Why? Perhaps it was the stronger choreography performed with flawless precession by the 18 Rockette women or possibly the new technological enhancements featuring a 50 foot video display and lavish lighting? But, to me, the show is a dance intensive affair that brings the joy of Christmas to audiences. You can’t help but be impressed with the dedication of the Rockettes. They perform their kicks and they tap and they do the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers  with breathtaking precession.

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” is a rhythmic tap rendition of the first order. “The Nutcraker” is deliciously performed by the ballet-infused dancers while the New York at Christmas features the Rockettes in a double-decker bus in front of that large video pictorial of Manhattan.

Of course, there is Santa Claus and we witness how he can be in many places at once as the many Santas dance to our delight. We also see how Santa  makes a teen believe in him and his powers. Our Christmas holiday traditions was nostalgically presented in Christmas Memories scene

The lights of Christmas become a vivid show highlighted by another thrilling Rockettes’ dancing. With the entire company, the heartfelt message of hope and love rings out.

“The Living Nativity” story of the first Christmas is presented as a pageantry of music featuring splendid costumes. Thankfully, the producers have eliminated the parade of the animals and the religious scripture reading that turned the Spectacular into a Christian service. The Living Nativity is enough.

The show ends with a heartfelt  “Joy To the World” tribute to the sweetness of the Christmas season. This dance spectacular is a fine show case for the terrific talents of the Rockettes. The tone and spirit of the production is a family-friendly show that is most entertaining. It is worthy Christmas fare. Take the kids, they’ll love it!
