What would happen if all six of 16th Century English King Henry VIII’s wives found themselves living together? That is the premise of Six Dead Queens now running at Evanston’s Picollo Theatre. This is a madcap comedy that swiftly moved for laughs during its 75 minutes. It had its moments but ultimately succumbs to vague historical references and silliness.

However, the material of the show does not create rock concert euphoria because it is not fun. The music is continually interrupted by long scenes of cheesy dialogue, the characters are stock and interchangeable, it is often difficult to hear the singer/actors onstage, and rather than stirring the audience into the frenzied euphoria I mentioned, it begs the audience to have fun.

The play is structured like a screen play with many short scenes each lasting a minute or two followed by blackouts and movement of benches and chairs.
