Timeless Magic

Sean Masterson’s Timeless Magic is a magic show interwoven with the story of the
souvenir coin that Sean’s great uncle received from a magician at Chicago’s Columbian
Exposition of 1893. Sean takes his audience on a journey through the “golden age of
magic” in his quest to uncover the identity of that anonymous magician. The show,
according to The Chicago Reader, “functions as a historical anthology, highlighting the
performers and the tricks… of magic’s golden era.”

Timeless Magic is a highly visual magic show that appeals to a multi-generational
audience. The show features sleight-of-hand, audience participation, and highly
deceptive but rarely seen 19th century magic effects that are sure to delight young and
old. The audience’s proximity and involvement is key to this show. Sean is as skilled
with engaging audience members as he is with prestidigitation.

“The palace intrigue behind Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition is alive and
well in this tidy 60-minute act from magician Sean Masterson. The narrative revolves
around a cryptic coin dating back to the World’s Fair, acquired by Masterson when he
was a boy.” Matt de la Peña, The Chicago Reader reviewing Timeless Magic in 2017

“…magician/raconteur Sean Masterson and his eye-popping, mind-boggling parlor
tricks” Lawrence Bommer, The Chicago Reader, reviewing Vintage Magic

Sean’s four previous shows at Theater Wit imaginatively blended magic and story telling:
THE MAGIC WONDER SHOW (2016) recounted the tale of French magician Robert-
Houdin; THE MAGICIAN AND HIS SHADOW (2015) featuring Kasey Foster; MAGIC
UP CLOSE (2014) invoked the story of Chicago’s own Blackstone the magician; MAGIC
MATINEE (2013) featured the story of 19th century magician Herrmann the Great. For
two consecutive years Sean’s magic was featured at the Driehaus Museum: MAGIC AT
THE MANSION (2011 & 2012) stories of the magicians at the 1893 Columbian
Exposition.

Sean Masterson has been entertaining Chicago audiences with his close up and stage
magic for 25 years. In 2017 he performed at the Old Town Art Fair, The Skokie Theater
and The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, MI. last year, in addition to his private party
performances, Sean made 50 appearances in local children’s hospitals.
